Dr. Isis of Miami Art Therapy has been practicing Art Psychotherapy and Mental Health Counseling in South Florida for over 40 years. She has worked in schools, hospitals, day treatment programs, substance abuse, eating disorder treatment centers and residential settings. Currently, she, offers full-time clinical art therapy services in the public schools, maintains a part-time private practice, facilitates Mindful Self-Compassion programs, and frequently presents therapeutic art/mindful doodling and mindfulness workshops locally, nationally and internationally.
Maintaining a mindfulness meditation practice for many years, Dr. Isis received training in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli in June of 2000. From 2000-2013, she conducted Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) classes and art therapy groups for the general public through Baptist Health at South Miami Hospital. Since January 2013, Dr. Isis offers an array of Mindfulness trainings, individual, group, couples and family art therapy and counseling sessions in her private office.
Additionally, Dr. Isis became a Certified Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)Teacher in 2017, under the direction of Drs. Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff who are the creators of the evidenced-based 8 week program. Dr. Isis was mentored for certification in MSC by Dr. Steve Hickman, executive director for the Center for Mindfulness at the University of California in San Diego. She offers MSC programs in collaboration with Mindful Kids Miami (adult programs), a non-profit organization devoted to bringing mindfulness to the children in our community through the adults.
Dr. Isis completed her PhD, in the expressive therapies with an emphasis on art therapy in 2003 from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1980, Dr. Isis attained her Masters degree in Expressive Therapies with an emphasis on Art Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
